The season finale of True Detective is tonight. If you have missed out on this series, you have missed out on what may be the best show on television right now. There are plenty of articles and posts about the theories on "who is the Yellow King?" But this is a car website so let's talk about something different. What vehicle is the best manifestation of each character on True Detective?

Kinja'd!!!

Cohle's 96' F-250 seems to suit him well. Life has not been easy on that old, red, Ford. But it keeps on going as if it has yet to serve its true purpose and like Cohle it has a simplicity and an absence of bullshit that makes it appealing.

I'm not so sure about Marty's XTS...it just seems like awkward product placement. What are your thoughts? Pick a car and match it with a character...and if you want to get all philosophical with your explanation that would be cool.

I kinda hate you now. I wanted to do a thing like this about TD and some other shows..

But, to answer your question, I think the Dodge that the two 2012 detectives drive really fitting.

The Sheriff and the Maserati Quattroporte.

The Sheriff was made pristine and powerful by his years with the police department, much like Maserati's years of racing heratige, but he has grown less sharp and justified with time, almost swapping souls with the Maserati.

I saw this and immediately thought I spoiled True Detective for you, because of the thread. Crisis averted.

I did not even think about OD...I wasn't sure they would be interested. But if you want to share go ahead. :)

From what I've seen, they're crazy about True Detective, and perhaps their more analytical view of the story/characters/plot and their different take on cars will contribute some interesting comparisons that some of us may have overlooked.

Had to rewatch most episodes because I couldn't keep from thinking about that clean 9C1 Caprice they rode in the flashbacks, every time it made an appearance.

I do like Cohle's pickup. As for reading things into the show's vehicles...

At the end of episode 6, there seems to be peculiar attention to the broken tail light on Cohle's truck as he pulls away. Possible reasons? Well, the lens through which Cohle views life is also shattered. Kidding — I don't have a clue. "Sometimes a cigar..." etc. etc.

Kinja'd!!!

Sorry, that's all I got.

He never fixed it from when they fought in the parking lot in '02. Not sure why though...I thought it was interesting/"deep".

Good catch, as I don't even remember that happening during the fight.

Well is not that because it got broken during Cohle's and Marty's fight and now it is zoomed in to remind us that last time they saw each other it did not go too well. Or am i too simple?
